The Sixth Floor Museum

Step into political history at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza where the fatal shots against President John F. Kennedy were fired. Located in the former Texas School Book Depository, the museum chronicles the life and death of our 35th president, and is one of the most popular historical sites in all of Texas. Chillingly, you can step in the corner where Harvey Lee Oswald used a rifle to assassinate the president. Outside the window on the street, an "X" marks the place President Kennedy was shot during his motorcade. The Sixth Floor Museum is a place to learn about history and pay your respects.

Avila's

For some top-of-the-line Tex-Mex, pay a visit to Avila's—a Dallas favorite for more than 30 years. Its central location and tasty menu makes it popular amongst locals. Try a specialty like pollo con calabaza, a Mexican chicken stew with squash and corn. The brisket tacos have been covered on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, so this dish is also a must try! Come for the extra spicy salsa and stay for the refreshingly cold and tangy margaritas.

The Star in Frisco

Calling all sports fans! Pay homage to "America's Team," also known as the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, by touring their training facility at The Star in Frisco. VIP tours give fans the chance to experience life as a player, taking tours to the locations in the facility where the players train 355 days out of the year. Highlights of the tour include the 510,000 square foot indoor facility, the War Room where the NFL draft is conducted, the Super Bowl Memorabilia & Station, and more.

Reunion Tower

Close to Dealey Plaza, take a 60-second elevator ride up to the observation deck of the iconic Reunion Tower for beautiful views of the city from 470 feet up. The deck features high-definition zoom cameras, telescopes, and interactive touch-screens for a fully immersive experience and panoramic views. The tower, also known as "The Ball," features a contemporary Asian fine dining option on the tower's top rotating level. At Wolfgang Puck's Five Sixty, located 50 floors up with floor-to-ceiling windows, enjoy dishes like waygu brisket, bao buns, and crispy Texas quail in a room that slowly revolves so you can get stunning views from all angles.

Dallas Museum of Art

The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is one of the top 10 largest art museums in the nation—and it's free! It holds more than 24,000 pieces of art that span the course of five millenia. The collection includes works by Picasso, Rodin, Monet, and more. The museum hosts programs for kids of all ages, as well as after-hour series of lectures with poets and artists strictly for adults. Its diverse collection was curated to make art and history come alive for all visitors and spur creative thoughts.

Pecan Lodge

For some of the most famous BBQ in the state of Texas, you're going to want to get in line for Pecan Lodge—but trust us, it's worth the wait. What started out as a little stand at a Dallas Farmer's Market is now a sage green brick restaurant supplying melt-in-your-mouth brisket in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. Can't decide which meat to try on the menu? Order the "Pitmaster," a sandwich piled high with brisket, pulled pork, sausage, slaw, BBQ sauce, and jalapenos.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanic Gardens

The Dallas Arboretum and Botancial Garden is 66 acres of beautiful greenspace that promotes art, leisure, and learning. This oasis, just outside of the downtown area, features quiet gardens, dining, sculptures, educational options, and special events. Dallas may be filled with towering skyscrapers but this little pocket of peacefulness will make you forget all about the hustle and bustle of the city. It's perfect for an afternoon date or just some good old fashioned family fun!
