Colorado Trip at a Glance
The vibe: Think Moab’s enthralling arches and rock trails, without the chaos. Western Colorado pairs sweeping desert scenery with small-town warmth, local wine and a surprising alpine escape on Grand Mesa
Best for: Adventurers, mountain bikers looking to try that world-famous singletrack, road trippers who want red-rock beauty plus alpine serenity all in one loop
Don’t miss:
- Rim Rock Drive through Colorado National Monument
- A slice at Fruita’s Hot Tomato Pizza
- The secret arches of Rattlesnake Canyon
- Paddleboarding on Island Lake
Best seasons: Spring and fall for hiking and biking; summer for peaches, wine and taking advantage of that Mesa temperature drop
The Colorado Playlist
This playlist captures the transition from Western Colorado’s red-rock canyons to the alpine calm of Grand Mesa. Blending indie-folk, classic rock, and local legends, it mirrors your journey from the high-desert energy of Fruita to the cool, wildflower-lined heights of the world’s largest flat-top mountain.
Advice from a Local
Gavin Bistodeau owns and operates Melrose Spirit Co. in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Perfect day off: Spending time with my wife and kids. During peach season, I love taking my kids to visit a friend's orchard to pick peaches.
Favorite coffee shop: You'll either catch me at Kiln Coffee hanging with my guys, David and Jon, or at Copeka Coffee grabbing an Americano to go. We're currently using a roast from Kiln for our espresso martini. People love a good espresso martini.
Favorite place to shop: The Hog and Hen downtown—part candy store, part deli, part liquor store. I'll bring my kids in for a sweet treat and their deli is top-notch. Their cheese and charcuterie plate is the best, hands down!
Best lunch spots: Loncheria Rubi's makes the best tacos and breakfast burritos in town. The small taco truck is run by a husband-and-wife duo five days a week. Simple and delicious.
Best spot to take visitors: Bin 707 is the most versatile dining experience—you can dress up, dress down, and still feel right at home. Grab a burger or a perfectly executed Colorado lamb tenderloin. It has the best service in town. Truly a treat for locals and out-of-towners alike.
Best spot for a fun night out: We'll start by grabbing a beer at Ramblebine Brewing. From there, we'll walk across the street to Taco Party to grab some apps and a couple of tacos—their guacamole is legendary. After a quick bite, we'll stop by to say hi to our friends at Moody’s and Trail Life Brewing, have a drink or two, and head back home—hopefully in bed before ten!
Top 3 things every visitor should do: 1. Explore one of the dozens of trailheads on the Colorado National Monument. 2. Wine tasting and small bites in Palisade. 3. Walk around our special western Colorado downtown area.
