Your Gulf Coast Road Trip Playlist

Packing for the Gulf Coast means preparing for sun, sand and a whole lot of Southern soul — and your playlist should match that energy. This mix blends local legends, tracks that celebrate your iconic stops, and breezy tunes that capture the palm-lined, beachy vibe of coastal highways.

A Local’s Day Off

A five-time James Beard Award semifinalist, Bill Briand is the owner and executive chef of Little Bird in Fairhope, Alabama. The restaurant is a personal tribute to his mother’s legacy, featuring a coastal Southern menu rooted in sustainable sourcing and purposeful cooking.

Perfect day off: Anywhere on the water fishing! There are so many good spots along the Gulf and Mobile Bay to have a day on the water.

Best people-watching: Fairhope Pier — it’s where many out-of-town visitors and locals go to enjoy the views and sunshine.

Favorite coffee shop: Provision. It’s a great atmosphere to read a book and enjoy a coffee.

Best lunch spots: I love the short rib sandwich at The Barn at The Hope Farm for lunch during the week.

Best spot to take visitors: Bucky's Lounge at The Grand Hotel — there is a beautiful view of the bay, and the hotel grounds are spectacular and peaceful.

Best spot for a fun night out: After dinner, we like to go to The Monkey Bar in Fairhope.

Most underrated spot in town: The Ravenite Pizzeria

Top three things every visitor should do:

1. Enjoy Sunday brunch at Little Bird. 2. Follow brunch with a walk along Scenic 98 and the pier. 3. Depending on when you visit, check out a “Taste of Fairhope” food tour.
